Founded in 2014 by Dan Farrant, our goal is to be the go-to place on the internet to learn music. We want to help teachers by providing awesome teaching materials and also to provide easy-to-understand teaching instructions for those who are learning by themselves.
Fast forward a few years, and now Hello Music Theory is now visited by over 1,000,000 people each month from all corners of the world!

Meet The Team
Below are some of the musicians who have contributed to the website over the years.
Dan Farrant – Managing Editor
Dan Farrant is a music teacher and musician, originally from London, who studied Jazz Double Bass at The Royal Academy of Music from 2008 to 2012.
Having been a musician for over 25 years and teaching for over 15, he plays the piano, guitar, bass guitar, and double bass.
Currently, Dan lives in Surrey, UK, where he teaches music privately and runs this website.
Samuel Chase – Writer
Samuel is an L.A. based musician and composer from Connecticut in the USA. He plays saxophone, piano, and guitar.
He studied music at The University of Virginia, his Postgraduate in Austria, and has recently finished his Ph.D. at the University Of Surrey, where he studied the use of minimalism in film music.
As well as being one of the writers for Hello Music Theory, Samuel is a composer writing for film and television.
Pete Yarde Martin – Writer
Peter Yarde Martin is a multi-instrumentalist and composer playing the trumpet, organ, piano, guitar, and voice.
He studied music at Cambridge University and his postgrad at Guildhall School of Music & Drama. He now works as the musical director at St. Peter’s Church, Notting Hill, runs several choirs, teaches one-to-one lessons, and composes extensively.
He has had his work played by London Philharmonic Orchestra and BBC Symphony Orchestra, among many others.
Izaak Walton – Writer
Izaak Walton is our resident strings writer. He plays violin, viola, and mandolin and is based out of Denver, CO.
He studied for his bachelor’s in Violin Performance at the University of Georgia and his Masters in Violin Performance at the University Of Denver.
He now works as a professional musician, teaches extensively, and writes on music education.
Christine Davies – Writer
Our resident cellist is Christine Davies, who has been a musician for over 30 years. She studied at Exeter University, where she got a B.A. Honors in English Literature.
She is a career teacher, having taught general primary education. She is also a published author writing Games For Music Reading.
Sian Hughes – Writer
Sian Hughes is a music teacher, pianist, and flutist who has been playing since she was only six years old.
She studied her undergraduate in music at the University of Huddersfield and now works as a musician and tutor from Shipley in Yorkshire.
